Space saving hex nuts with half height profile for locking standard nuts or fastening in confined spaces.

Key Benefits & Features

  • Half height design: Thin hex nuts are about 0.5× their nominal thread size, whereas full nuts are ~0.8×; e.g. an M10 jam nut is 5 mm thick instead of 8 mm.
  • Space saving and locking: Reduced height allows installation in tight spaces and serves as a jam nut tightened against a primary nut to lock it in place and prevent loosening.
  • Internal machine screw threads: Same width across flats as standard nuts for use with standard spanners; available in coarse.
  • Bright zinc plated finish: Zinc plating provides basic corrosion resistance; plain finish and yellow zinc are alternatives.

Use Cases

  • Fastening in confined spaces where a full size nut will not fit.
  • Machinery, automotive and electronic assemblies requiring a secondary jam nut.
  • Adjustable mechanisms where components must rotate while secured.
  • DIY repairs and small fixtures requiring a low profile fastening solution.

Compatibility / Fittings

  • Use with bolts or threaded studs of the same diameter and thread pitch.
  • Pair with a full size nut to lock it in place, or use individually where space is limited.
  • Compatible with spring washers or thread locking compounds for additional security.

Installation & Tips

  • Thread the primary nut onto the bolt and tighten.
  • Install the thin jam nut and tighten it against the primary nut using two spanners; this locks both nuts together.
  • Do not exceed the strength rating of the thin nut; for high load applications use a full size DIN 934 nut instead.
  • Apply thread locking compound if used in high vibration environments.
  • Replace jam nuts if threads or flats show signs of wear.
